The Club Hotel
The Club Hotel is situated on Kangaroo Island, in an unusual, grassy opening between densely packed trees. The hotel is made up of 4 ‘houses’ and a lobby building. Each house contains 30 rooms over 3 floors. They are simply stacked blocks for efficiency, and built using modular construction.
In massing, the blocks sit perpendicular from each other, alternating between sea views and lagoon views. This alternation prevents overlooking from one balcony to another, and adds difference and character to the facades.
Double height public space occupies the ground floor of each block, connecting all the core facilities, and providing a connection to the gardens. The blocks step down with the landscape meaning that mezzanines are utilised to link the public spaces and provide a platform to observe from.
On the outside, bespoke stair-cores define the façade, and act like markers for a twisting buggy route that weaves in-and-out of the buildings, dropping guests off at the core of each house.
